Today’s post is all about an amazing young person, Awa Puna. I was drawn to her story by the coincidence of the story sharer, Nigel Latta, having some resemblance to my Uncle Joseph. (I wonder if there’s an away game there somewhere).
More attracting though is Awa’s name. Awa is a name in my personal praise song. In mine, it is used as Awa Wa. Awa is river in Māori. It’s amazing the experiences and learning we are privileged to have when we traverse rivers, challenging though they may be. We find strength within us that we didn’t know we had.
A burgeoning strength is what I observe in Awa.
A 2024 update on Awa Puna’s story indicates that she is adjusting, and perhaps, thriving too. She seems to be some way up from her traumatic Year 10 experience.
More power to you, Awa. We are name sakes. It may mean we have more in common than not. I’ll be following, and if your whanau is not overcrowded for you, even if there are a thousand in it already, this Awa is happy tae meet sometime. Holla!
You can read Awa Puna’s stories on Facebook.
